The El Camino G8 Lives on Down Under

From the dawn of time they came – moving not-so-silently around you… El Camino. Last year, Pontiac disappointed fans by naming their 2010 “El Camino” the G8 Sports Truck… But in America we no longer have to worry, because as of 2010 Pontiac will no longer exist thanks to GM. But the “El Camino” will live on (sort of).

According to Jalopnik: Holden’s readying a limited edition version of its Commodore SSV (G8 Sports Truck) with Pontiac’s twin-nostril grille and hood scoops. According to Australian sources, the special edition will be called the Commodore G8 SSV.

The move to stop the export program in the wake of GM’s bankruptcy and the killing off of the Pontiac brand has left a warehouse of parts once destined for cars to be exported to the US. Holden’s marketing department — sensing an opportunity — has decided to use the stockpile on VE Commodores, which will be sold as a premium priced, limited edition Holden. There’s even a special edition wagon in the works! Sticker listing will range from around $47,000 to over $55,000. A small price to pay for automotive immortality – because in the end, there can be only El!
