From WDTN 2 – SUGARCREEK TWP., Montgomery Co. (WDTN) – A single car crash on Interstate 675 shut down the southbound lanes in Sugarcreek Twp. for six hours Aug. 23.

Brennan S. Eden, 19, of Mason, Ohio, lost control of his car and slammed into the concrete pillar of a bridge south of Indian Ripple Road about 7:15 a.m.

The force of the crash broke the car into three pieces and Brennan was ejected.

Witnesses said moments before the crash, Brennan was passing other drivers at speeds of at least 100 mph. He crashed when he drove off the left side of the roadway while passing a Sugarcreek Twp. police car. The crash was caught on that officer’s cruiser camera.

“He went down into the median, into the grass, hit the guardrail, went airborne and the car hit the center post of the bridge and literally exploded into three main pieces,” said witness Mark Riley.

Police said Brennan was alert and conscious after the crash and was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight where he was last listed in critical condition.

“He is very lucky to still be alive at this point,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Marty Fellure. “You can see behind me the impact he took and where he got ejected and landed, he’s a very fortunate man right now.”

It was a sad day when the new Knight Rider premiered on NBC, and what we saw was an opening sequence featuring only leftover parts of the famous 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. To add insult to injury – the new KITT is a FORD PRODUCT!? Sigh…

Fear not kids – today all your Knight Rider (classic, of course) dreams will come true. We will show just how easy it is to turn anything with a Pontiac logo into your very own Knight Industries Two Thousand. For the purpose of this exercise we shall use the 2008 Pontiac G6:

You have to start with the red tracer light. It’s KITT’s main censor, allowing him to see through cars, past buildings and also occasionally shoot lazer beams at his evil KARR twin.

All black rims area must. They didn’t spin and they weren’t shiny – because KITT needed to be stealthy – and nothing is as stealthy as a Firebird from the early 80′s. Don’t forget the license plate. Slap some flat-black paint on your ride and the outside is pretty much a success.

Ford the inside, you have to get top of the line crime fighting and defense technology. Or, much like the 1982 television show, just a couple of crappy mini-monitors and lot of colorful buttons that probably belong on the bridge of the original Star Trek Enterprise set. And of course there’s the KITT talking module.

And there you have it – a completely up to date KITT made from a Pontiac. So, why did NBC go with the <strike>money</strike> Ford?

During the late 1970′s and early 1980′s you couldn’t click past any of (the 10) channels on your television without seeing a Pontiac Trans Am fly by. From Burt Reynolds to Michael Knight, the revved-up Firebird became a star of screens both large and small. Pontiacpedia takes a look at two of the most famous Trans Ams – their 1977 and 1982 models, and a lesser known Pontiac vehicle which made an attempt to resurrect a fallen Knight.

Knight Rider

You know the show, the theme song, and the car! From 1982 to 1986 NBC viewers tuned in to see star David Hasselhoff fight drug runners and mob bosses in his Artificial Intelligence controlled Trans Am. KITT – Knight Industries Two Thousand – was a computer / armored tactical fighting machine on wheels. Aside from Hollywood magic, the ’82 Firebird Trans Am had upgraded handling, suspension and horsepower. Specifically, KITT was a Third Generation Trans Am with almost 300 horsepower! The Third Gen Firebirds were so popular their model run lasted from 1982 to 1992.

Knight Rider 2000

In 1991 Knight Rider producers attempted the first of many come backs for KITT. This time, the Knight Industries Four Thousand was a concept model – a 1989 Banshee. Ok, so it’s not a Firebird or Trans Am – but it’s still a kick ass looking vehicle. The car was actually a “Banshee IV” A 230 hp fuel-injected V8 engine powered rear wheel drive. A heads-up display projection monitor showed off the dash gauges along with video display. The rear spoiler was even adjustable for different speeds; these designs were meant to be worked into both future Pontiac Firebird and Pontiac Trans Am cars.

Smokey and the Bandit

In 1977 Smokey and the Bandit the big screen with Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason and a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am (one that enjoys jumping over creeks in the backwoods of Georgia or Alabama). This particular Firebird contained a 6.6 Liter 400 engine with about 200-plus hp under the hood. The film itself became an instant classic thanks to both its comedic interaction and amazing car chases. The Bandit’s Trans Am made a second appearance in Smokey and the Bandit II.

East bound Snowman…
