From WDTN 2 – SUGARCREEK TWP., Montgomery Co. (WDTN) – A single car crash on Interstate 675 shut down the southbound lanes in Sugarcreek Twp. for six hours Aug. 23.

Brennan S. Eden, 19, of Mason, Ohio, lost control of his car and slammed into the concrete pillar of a bridge south of Indian Ripple Road about 7:15 a.m.

The force of the crash broke the car into three pieces and Brennan was ejected.

Witnesses said moments before the crash, Brennan was passing other drivers at speeds of at least 100 mph. He crashed when he drove off the left side of the roadway while passing a Sugarcreek Twp. police car. The crash was caught on that officer’s cruiser camera.

“He went down into the median, into the grass, hit the guardrail, went airborne and the car hit the center post of the bridge and literally exploded into three main pieces,” said witness Mark Riley.

Police said Brennan was alert and conscious after the crash and was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight where he was last listed in critical condition.

“He is very lucky to still be alive at this point,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Marty Fellure. “You can see behind me the impact he took and where he got ejected and landed, he’s a very fortunate man right now.”

Rumors are crawling across the Internetz today that General Motors is (apparently) going to order the axing of old school brand Pontiac as early as next week! The idea that Pontiac may be on the chopping block has been an on-again / off-again theory within the auto industry for months. Now it looks like the time has actually come. Good night, sweet Pontiac, and may a flock of angels sing thee to thy grace. Full details in the Automobile Mag article below.

The rumors of Pontiac’s death may not have been so greatly exaggerated this time around.

Inside Line reports it has received word from a source within GM that Pontiac will be axed, the victim of the Detroit automaker’s “faster, deeper” reorganization plan. It was rumored last week that Pontiac would be killed off, along with GMC, but GM issued a statement vehemently denying those reports, repeating its four-core-brands-plus-Pontiac-as-niche mantra.

Inside Line’s source claims that Pontiac hasn’t escaped the noose this time, however, because it is the easiest brand for GM to eliminate: most Pontiac dealers have already been consolidated to Buick-GMC-Pontiac, so losing Pontiac would close few dealers. Details on “faster, deeper,” including the alleged announcement of Pontiac’s death, are supposed to emerge on Monday.

Inside Line called a PR representative for GM, and he was predictably cryptic. “There’s nothing I can share with you at this time. Keep your eyes on our media site. Officially, nothing has changed with Pontiac’s niche-brand status, until you hear differently.” Sounds “officially” negative to us.

Bottom line: hurry up and get those G8s while they’re still around. If this is true, they’re going to be selling at fire-sale prices.

We know all about KITT, the talking, Artificial Intelligence crime fighting Trans Am from TV’s Knight Rider. But what about the Semi, and whoever was behind its wheel? We at Pontiacpedia like to spend a few days every month watching old school Knight Rider episodes, in an attempt to forget all about that new Ford based version currently on NBC.

If we go back into the Knight Rider volt you find a few bits of evidence that the Foundation for Law and Government Semi actually ran on auto pilot. Accord to several KR fan sites, in the fourth season there is mention of an auto pilot program, which would also explain why it never seemed to run into any traffic jams. Too bad the semi couldn’t Turbo Boost.

Other information scouted out refers to several human drivers, since (according to Michael Knight) a human driver must remain behind the wheel at all times, just in case the semi auto pilot malfunctions. One such pilot was fourth season star Peter Parros, who played RC3. Of course the one time you let a character who was introduced to spice up the show drive, the truck gets stolen.

But what about the mysterious man in the trucker cap? Several episodes feature the blurred image of a man in various trucker hats, faithfully driving KITT’s mobile repair shop, risking his (or her?) life in order to get Devon, Michael and Bonnie (or April, if it’s season two) across our nation. Will the tale of this brave, secretive tractor-trailer helmsman ever be told? Or will he go down in the books a person as mysterious as The Stig…
