1969 – About 25 miles northwest of Detroit, Pontiac unleashed a GTO unlike any other. It was named “The Judge.”

Pontiac, who laid claim to the invention of the muscle car phenomenon in 1964, “laid everyone on their ear with a wildly colored Goat with Pop Art stripes, decals, and a 60-inch spoiler on the rear deck.”

“The Judge was a ‘hype,’” said marketing man Jim Wangers, godfather of the GTO. “The original ’64 GTO was created to be an image-making ‘hype’ for the more sedate LeMans. The Judge was created to be a ‘hype’ for the GTO.”

Over four decades later, Judge continues to be one of the greatest muscle cars ever built in America, and one of the most coveted vehicles on collectors’ minds today.

I stumbled upon this great little GTO fan site and began to dream of a time I was born to late to witness – when men were men, muscle cars had true horse power, and everyone dressed like the cast of Happy Days (at least that’s how I picture it). This little Pontiac GTO fan club features hundreds of submitted photos; from restored cars to post-accident footage. And from the classic ’64 GTO to that sad “rebirth” GM tied a few years back…you know, the one that resembles a Grand Am? No one is looked down upon at Ultimate GTO – as long as they OWN a GTO.

[nggallery id=2]

Two posts on the home page really caught our attention here at Pontiacpedia.org – the first being an excellent summer Drive In movie shoot with a ’68 GTO out in Ohio’s beautiful farmland. The second post, much sadder, shows off a totaled 1969 GTO Judge. What a waste. Enjoy cruising these photos and their website, we are sure you will!
